=D This year's camp was uber-fun...after my sis left I'm the only alpha-female there. ;o) Actually there's Sas too...but I get loyalty privileges right? I've never missed a single camp since the first camp in 1998 where there were only about 20 people, and we stayed at Aunty KT's house. Now there's 80 people. =( So many, so crowded.
Pottery
Anyway we did lots of fun stuff, like pottery. Only no one made pots. Hehe, everyone made little scuptures, like cakes and flowers, but no pots. I myself made a bird and a lotus...only meddling kids broke of the leaf of my lotus and the tail of my bird, which took my 15 minutes to make and another 30 minutes to stick on cause it was so delicate. *cry* I was very, very angry when I saw my tail-less bird. The offender didn't even bother to leave the broken tail behind so I could fix it. EVIDENCE DESTROYER! *complain* Anyway, anger got the better of me when I lost my temper while holding my little pretty birdie...I broke both its wings off in my fit of rage. What? You're laughing at me?! No fair...=( Now my bird is a handicap...not tail no wings...got head only. Aiya, got brains need beauty for what?
Xmas Card =D
All the kids also joined forces to make a huge Xmas card...they punched out little glittery bits of paper and pasted them on the card, to give it a colourful homemade look. There were snowflakes, stars, flowers and such. Aunty KT asked me to think of ideas to decorate the inner flap of card, the oppurtunity of which was used to throw my alpha-female weight around. ;o) I suggested that I (not we)draw a huge angel, which I was permitted. Painstakingly, I drew the angel with nice flowing wings and dress...I thought my drawing was rather crappy, as they normally are when I blow them up to A3 size, but I liked it anyway.
Football
As usual, the boys and uncles had their annual football match. (Why wasn't I included? *cry*) We went to the Jalan Gasing field to watch the guys get all hot and sweaty, while the girls and spare players cheered from the sidelines. I cheered for a little while until the boys started losing (I jinxed them, haha) Then Saswiny, Nisha and I went to Sas' friends house which was just a couple roads away. They had a cute little house and the family was really nice - they served us Ribena and chocolate cookies even though we only went there for the bathroom. xD
Reshmonu
On the way back from their house, I saw this guy jogging round the field. I was thinking to myself, geez, another Reshmonu wannabe...what with black and red braids and all. Then the guys noticed him and started laughing and staring. Then one of the guys called out from the field 'HEY RESHMONU!' He waved and grinned. Then I was like GEEZ, it's really him. Hahaha...good for the boys, they're huge Resh fans who sing Hey Waley whenever they can. I'm not really a fan, and I actually find his songs kinda irritating, but basically he's a nice guy. =)
He told the guys to wait until he made another round around the field and patiently signed personalized autographs for the guys and shook hands with all of us. He took a picture with a couple of the guys, and left to do some crunches, sit-ups, pumping and goodness-knows-what else. Gotta keep that bod fit, ya know? It's funny to see my friends so star-struck...I was like, lets get autographs and sell it on Ebay! All I got was filthy 'how could you do that?' looks. Oh well. Didn't I say I wasn't a fan?
Anyhow, the guys and uncles tied (5-5), which is a good sign, since the boys lost consecutively for 3 years, I think. They deserve to win next year. (So that my cheering won't be in vain =D)Car Wash
We also had a car wash. =D=D=D (Excuse to get wet) The first was fun, and by the end of the day we were completely drenched and RM70 richer. =) The next day, while I was having a chess game with Jeanette I was shocked to hear Saswiny tell me that the boys had asked the girls to do the car wash by ourselves so that they could play freaking FOOTBALL. WHERE'S OUR WOMEN'S RIGHTS??? I was so pissed that I almost lost to Jeanette. How embarassing. Whatever. I gave the 'supervisor' an earful, although it wasn't really his fault. He was like 'Ok, ok. I won't go, I didn't bring my boots anyway.' o_o Is that supposed to make me feel better or feel guilty? I still have no idea.
I don't care what they say, if the boys HAD gone, I'd have made my friends boycott the carwash, leaving only the Penang gang (which consists of 4 willing workers) to do all the dirty work, while the boys are having a hell of a time at Jalan Gasing.
In the end, they didn't go...but they didn't exactly help with the car wash either. To hell with them. But at least some of the guys took their responsibilty and helped, unlike the twits who spent the evening playing football, while we work our butts off to raise funds. Not that the car wash was something I dreaded, but it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing, ya know?
Chess
An inpromptu chess tournament was organized, and I happily signed up, since I love playing Chess. Not to mention that this is one of the only times where I can enjoy a good chess game with players that are actually challenging. I blame this on the common perception that chess is a boring game. Yeah right, if chess is boring, then the dictionary has no term left to describe window-shopping.
Anyhow, the tournament was a best of 3 thing, so I only had to win 2 out of three to advance. The first opponent was easy. Even Sean, this 9-year-old boy who is astonishingly good at chess, agreed. 'Khaielaash, (sp?) you're soooo gonna lose' *shakes head* Such a cute boy. =D Well, anyone that supports me is cute, from my point of view, heehee.
I was a little worried about my 2nd round, against Jakaesh, at 19 years old, the senior of the camp. However, Aunty KT was right when she said that age doesn't matter when playing chess. I steamrollered over him the first two rounds, as I did with Khaielaash.
The 3rd round (and semi-final) was against Nitya, who was, along with her brother Kaness, notoriously good at chess. I was dead nervous...I lost the first round without much resistance. But as I said before, I tend to do better when faced with tough competition, and finally I beat Nitya. A little thanks to Jun Yan too *wink* Shh, don't tell anyone I had outside help. With that victory in my hands, it was time for the finals. My opponent, unsurprisingly, was Kaness. All I can say is Kudos to this guy. He checkmated so fast in the first round I barely had time to blink. His confidence scared me too, his words 'checkmate' were accompanied with such a smug grin, I was practically speechless. The second round was grueling, I started first, and he copied Jun Yan's strategy by mirroring my every move. It's very irritating if you didn't know. It's like the Shan Shan of chess strategies. About 10 moves into the game, I finally shook him off by sacrificing my pawn. One by one, I murdered his key pieces, queen included, until he finally gave up.
For me, the queen isn't my key piece. I love my bishops to death, as they tend to go unnoticed, whereas the queen tends to be the target of assassination. xD As for the results? We will never know, Kaness and I never had time to finish and it was declared a tie. =D I felt slightly relieved, albeit a slightly discontented relief, as I didn't get the chance to find out who was the better player after all. =( In the end, we shared the prize, which was a bag of gummies that we distributed to the kids. We're so nice, aren't we? =P
Museum Visit
On Saturday, the last day of camp (=() We all went to the National Museum . I hated the place. At first I thought it was ok. It's kinda nice to see life-size models of animals that you normally can't get close to in the woods...like crocodiles, tigers and such. Well, nice until the guard told me they were REAL. Sure enough, when I went closer (and squatted down) I could see operation marks on the tiger and a couple of bullet (tranquilizer?) holes. I was like, MURDERERS!!!
As if that wasn't bad enough, seeing the dead tiger and crocodiles, I saw an orang-utan staring through the display case with glassy eyes. Wait, AREN'T THEY ENDANGERED???!! Then what the hell are they doing here in glass display cases, slaughtered and gutted for all the world to see? Is this what the government wants to do? Encourage hunting? I am NEVER going there ever again. It's not a bloody museum (well, in a way it is, pun intended), it's an effing GRAVEYARD!!! If there's anywhere that's haunted, it's most definitely the museum. Visit the museum at your own risk. And endangered ghosts aren't the only that will haunt you, my wrath shall be taken out upon you if you even go near that filthy place. *snarls*
